Activities for Seeing Family While Keeping Safe This Summer

Activities for Seeing Family While Keeping Safe This Summer

The latest government guidance for the elderly deemed as clinically extremely vulnerable states shielding has currently been paused. This means there is more freedom for those who have been isolating in their homes for most of the pandemic, and from May 17th close contact with friends and family will be allowed for the greater population. While this now includes the vulnerable, the government have advised to exercise these new rules with caution to keep your loved ones safe.

As a result, there is a lot of confusion as to what the clinically extremely vulnerable can and cannot do, so to avoid the further negative effects of isolation, we have come up with a number of activities you can enjoy with your loved one while feeling safe in the knowledge their health is not at risk.

Explore a National Trust site

Take your loved one to a local national trust site and spend time enjoying the scenic views and fresh air together. With over 200 gardens and parks to discover, find your nearest site by following this link https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/search.

Afternoon Tea in your garden

Weather permitting, enjoying a treat in the garden can be a great way to safely enjoy one another’s company while doing something a bit special. There are many businesses who deliver services such as afternoon, allowing you to relax and simply enjoy the experience with your loved one.

Try a new hobby together

Government guidelines now state residents in care homes can have up to 5 named visitors, which is likely to increase social activity – a significant factor in maintaining a good mental health for the elderly. As you can spend more time with your loved one, it is a great opportunity to try a new hobby together, such as crafting or sewing.

At Wessex Care, we understand everyone’s needs are different, which is why we pride ourselves in our adaptive care abilities. We also provide regular Covid-19 briefings to keep our residents and communities up to date with the latest Government guidelines and advise for keeping safe.
