Virus Killing and Air Purifying Equipment at Wessex Care

NEW Virus Killing and Air Purifying Equipment at Wessex Care

At Wessex Care, we’ve invested in new virus killing and air purifying technology to combat Covid-19 and other illnesses in our care homes. Radic8 are leading providers of premium indoor air safety technology, specialising in clean air solutions for nursing and residential care homes.

This new equipment has been implemented alongside the UV-C decontamination technology from Inivos which we’ve been using since early in the pandemic.

The new technology is the latest effort in our commitment to keeping our residents, visitors and staff as safe as we can in these unprecedented times. Find out about our Covid-fighting technology below.

Why clean air matters in residential care

In 2017, the Eu-27's death rate from respiratory diseases for people aged over 65 was 38 times higher than the rate for those under 65. Today, with Covid-19, this rate has risen even further, with approximately one in nine people over 75 passing away with the virus.

This is why it’s so important that we have clean air in our residential care homes. The safety of our residents, many of whom are vulnerable or elderly, is our top priority. The innovative cleaning technologies we have at Wessex Care significantly reduce levels of viral load in the air and on surfaces. This dramatically decreases the risk and severity of contamination to a level that deep cleaning and ventilation cannot achieve.

UV-C cleaning technology

We are proud to be the first residential care provider in the UK to commission the UV-C decontamination machine. This cutting-edge technology, typically used in hospitals, utilises ultraviolet-C light technology to eliminate bacteria and viruses. Monitoring sensors called ‘spectromes’ are placed around the room to control the UV-C decontamination process effectively.

Our specialist staff have completed an Inivos training programme to use the equipment effectively.

See how we implemented this technology in our care homes during the pandemic here:

Sodeca UPM/EC PCO

Sodeca UPM/EC PCO

After the success of the UV-C decontamination machines, we decided to invest in some cutting-edge air treatment units from Sodeca. Our UPM/EC PCO units use photocatalysis-based technology to disinfect and purify indoor air and surfaces, specially designed for high occupancy buildings.

The mobile units have wheels to allow our staff to move them around our residential homes with ease. Our Sodeca machines have been deployed in communal areas of our care centres and homes.

Hextio clean air technology

Hextio clean air technology

One of our new technologies is Radic8’s Hextio, a portable air cleaning device perfect for sitting on desks, tables and other units. Using advanced photocatalytic oxidation technology, Hextio works to:

  • Efficiently eliminate viruses and bacteria
  • Remove pollutants from the air
  • Neutralise pathogens
  • Capture noxious gases, smoke, VOCs, dust, dander and other allergens

The device features an airflow hood that can be directed towards different breathing spaces to provide clean, safe air in any direction.

Hextio boasts triple-filter technology to capture all unwanted particles from the air. The two-stage process of purification and decontamination, featuring a miniaturized reactor chamber, decontaminates airborne viruses and biological pathogens to fully filter, neutralise and decontaminate the air in our residential homes.

We have deployed these units in all bedrooms at our Care Centres and at Holmwood.

VK 401 clean air device

VK 401 clean air device

We have also invested in Radic8’s VK 401, clean air filtering technology that works in a similar way to the Hextio. Like its counterpart, it deactivates bacteria and viruses and neutralises noxious gases, smoke, VOCs, dust, dander and other allergens. In addition, the VK 401 controls airflow to optimise disinfection in the breathing space.

This technology works to purify air in large areas, like our residential home living rooms.

Like the Hextio, the VK401 has a two-stage cleaning process to effectively trap, purify and decontaminate air, but it can also be used as an out-of-reach, wall-mounted unit.

We have deployed these units in communal areas, corridors and stairwells of our Milford Manor specialist complex dementia and mental health service, where the portable Hextio units would be unsuitable.
